PERFORMERS AND RECORDED MUSIC
Unequalled in playing AND teaching is Canadian James Hill. Friendly, approachable, dedicated to excellence in everything he does. Very good singer too.
Although Ralph Shaw is now Canadian, this lanky, skilled ukulele and banjolele player has a voice like an angel, an irrepressible Yorkshire accent and a background in applied physics. He's also an easygoing, humorous bloke and an entertaining performer.
Young Melburnian Vance Joy is known internationally for his 2013 hit Riptide which topped the Triple J hottest one hundred that year. Check out his hi tech strap in this clip!
Other excellent Australian performers:
AJ Leonard and Jenny Rowlands Tyrone & Lesley The Pockets Bosko & Honey
As lead singer of highly successful Seattle band Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder went out on a limb in 2012 to release his beautiful album Ukulele Music. If you've always loved Eddie's voice, this will not disappoint.
You CANNOT go past the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain playing Shaft
And then...see if you can hold back a tear as Queen's masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody is rendered even more incredible by the modest, delightful and breathtakingly talented Hawaiian player Jake Shimabukuro.
Until March 2020, Original Cyn & Co were a local duo made up of uke mistress Cynthia Sleight-Meyles with Danielle Scott (me) on u-bass. Lots of vocal harmonies! Original Cyn is continuing to perform solo and do workshops. Check out her bloody incredible arrangement of Santana's Europa.
Below is a clip of Jack (Mark Jackson) & Jel (Jane Jelbart) and Danielle (me) - at the 2014 Newkulele Festival playing my song Satellite Navigation.
